Theanine, Tryptophan and Tyrosine–What the What? (Supplements Explained!)


Theanine, Tryptophan and Tyrosine: what is the difference? So may T’s!

I work at a health supplements store and I’ve learned quite a few things reading the labels, and searching up products online in my downtime.

I know, I was confused too. Let me break break break it down for you:

Theanine: good for mental well-being as it balances out neurotransmitters related to anxiety, stress, and depression. It’s a component found in green tea.

Tryptophan: this is the 5-HTP precursor! Which is the precursor to serotonin, the feel-good hormone. That’s when we feel happy, connected, and joyful. Good amounts of serotonin converts to melatonin, throughout the day, which helps sleep. Tryptophan is also known to help you relax.

Tyrosine: good for mental cognitive function such as memory, making conclusions, and thinking. It increases dopamine and adrenaline, which are natural simulators for the brain when we perceive something new or exciting. 🙂
